This week on RCS’s Questions and Answers in a Time of Remote Workflows, we were joined by Adrian Guanipa, GSelector Support Lead, to discuss Administrative and Job configurations. We dove into how to create Organizations, Roles, Users, as well as other admin options, then a breakdown of each GSelector Job and sparked by user driven questions, we showed some hidden navigation tricks.
Located under Tools and Administration, Adrian described why users would want to create specific individual Organizations, Roles and Users and how to setup GSelector configurations to proper notify users. Essentially, Organizations allow administrators to define what GSelector stations users can see, Roles will control what the user can do inside each GSelector tab or subtab, and finally Users will create the specific user based on a username and password.
Pivoting to the relatively new GSelector Job window, which can be found under Tools / Configuration, Adrian broke down each Job and why users would want to implement them. Service Heartbeat will notify an engineer if there’s an issue with GSelector Publisher, licensing, or backup services. Backup will create an automatic backup and don’t forget the corresponding Configuration / Settings Backup options as well. Schedule Subscription and Check Publication Status all pertain to GSelector’s S3 setup. Next, there’s automatic housekeeping, which sparked the conversation on how often one should run Housekeeping. “Does it hurt to run Housekeeping? Of course not. Do users have to run it every single day? No. It really depends on the users and stations, but once a week is more than fine.” Finally, Check Schedule for VPs or OMs who need to monitor music schedules to make sure their station’s logs are completed via email.
Finally, we wrap up the session with more user driven questions, we also introduced some fun tips and tricks for specific users and how to customize their GSelector. Still working within Tools / Administration, under the File dropdown, users can define emails protocols using SMTP Parameters, Settings Persistence will define user versus station display settings, and Reset Service Host Cache for Current Database will close out any active GSelector sessions to run Housekeeping. Adrian also shared some hidden Selector Version 12 navigation features via Tools / Navigation.
