He’s back! Asst. GSelector Product Manager John Bonou joined us again to chat about everything GSelector and music scheduling. Thursday’s session started with talking about attribute goal scheduling and turned into a user driven live question and answer. We covered Clock Constraints, analyzing your database in the goals tab, Browse Lists, enabling a couple Priority List settings and how to counter weighted power category rotations.
Let’s first talk about John’s unique perspective on GSelector attribute goal scheduling. Simply put, John likes to schedule his logs around a single category and then uses the Content attribute to define songs as Primary or Secondary. Users can define single positions in the clock structure to maintain the same desired results. For example, “Kick off the hour with an high energy song,” “Only play a core song,” or even multiple attributes, like “The first song after a Spot Block must have a high energy AND be a core song.” Do not forget to adjust some of your Content settings as well, found within Goals | Content. Perhaps you don’t fully understand the Content scheduling technique? Use the F1 Dynamic Help to fill in the blanks!
Next, we briefly reviewed the Goals tab and specifically, how to better understand your library and, without any goals or rules, how to predict your turnovers. Utilize your frequency, demand percentage and turnover values to better adjust your desired transitions. If your Content: Secondary is roughly 70% of your library, then guess what? You have a biased, weighted library, if your goal is to play mostly Content: Primary records.
While working in your Priority Lists, don’t forget to enable a couple pro settings, including separating your Segue Bans: Setup | Station | Features | Advanced | Separate Ban Priorities. This will allow for more specific scheduling. For example, programmers may be ok with GSelector to schedule a Sound Code: Pop into another Sound Code: Pop, however, they do NOT want to see a Sound Code: Pop into Sound Code: Pop into Sound Code: Pop. In that circumstance, we would define Pop into Pop as BREAKABLE and Pop into Pop into Pop as UNBREAKABLE. Enabling the Separate Segue Bans setting will allow for much more control in your Priority Lists.
As part of the fun broadcasting live – we get to answer user driven questions. In no particular order: If you want to isolate Linker imaging voices so that two of the same voice talent play in a row, don’t forget to utilize Linker Vocalists, then include Spread Vocalists for your Linker categories. Or, what about Browse Lists? Found under Library | Browse, Browse Lists, or the blue paper with pencil icon, allows users to drag over elements into a third window. If you right click within the Browse List, there are a bunch of scheduling options, including shuffle. Or left click on the column headers to sort, including sorting by A-Z for A-Z Weekends.
Finally, John and Nate discussed how to properly adjust for a weighted category, like a Power category. Let’s say we have a Power Category with 7 songs, but we know that there’s one or two songs that are more powerful / trending / deserve more spins than the rest of the category. John discussed about increasing the Shift, found under Goals | Balance | Songs. Nate brought up an alternative by switching your Disabled | Slotted Category Group Settings (Goals | Categories | Category Group Settings (1,2 down arrow icon)) to Schedule and Kick, so that GSelector will respect your kick grid pattern while taking into account any Shift goals John mentioned earlier.
Remember, GSelector has enough tools and techniques to make your life easier and more efficient.
